Trust Governance

 The Trust exists to raise money and financially support Hospice Marlborough. It owns the hospice building and raises over $700,000 from the community each year to keep the hospice operating. It is a registered charitable trust.

Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Previous roles include 17 years as a business advisor at TvA Chartered Accountants, a firm he started with Geoff van Asch in 1997. Currently working part-time and studying at Canterbury University. Chair Hospice Marlborough since 2014.

Tony attended Lincoln University and attained a Diploma of Agriculture and Diploma of Valuation and Farm Management. Later he completed a Bachelor of Business Studies at Massey University (Extramurally). Through his working life Tony has had a strong rural connection from hands on grass roots level farming roles to Regional Finance Manager and Branch Manager in various locations for Wrightson and later Rabobank. Tony has strong banking, finance and risk management skills. Tony has also served in a number of governance roles including; Nelson College Board of Trustees, Selmes Garden Charitable Trust, Business Trust Marlborough and as a Trustee of the Marlborough Aviation Heritage Trust. He has also served on a number of semi formal “Boards of Management” for larger progressive farmers. Leisure activities include, mountain biking, golf and bridge.
Allison Lomax

Allison has recently retired from Ashwood Park Retirement Village providing aged care services, where she worked as a registered nurse and as Quality Manager. She trained as a nurse at Wairau Hospital and practiced there in a variety of areas including palliative care, before moving into health services management. In this capacity for several years she was responsible for the hospital services throughout the NMDHB, at Wairau, Nelson Base and Takaka, before carrying out roles as CEO at Southland DHB and then South Canterbury DHB for two years. While taking a break from the health sector Allison served on the Hospital Advisory Committee of the Canterbury Health Board for eighteen months. She returned to practice as a nurse in the aged care sector, where she has been for the past twelve years.
Ian Fitzgerald

Ian is a Blenheim based experienced company director and advisor. Ian is a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and holds several directorships with private and public entities.
Ian’s current roles include being Chair of the Public Trust, Chair of the Niue Development Bank, Chair of Timaru District Holdings, Director World of Wearable Arts, member of the Ngati Apa ki te Ra To Investment Committee and is a former Chair of Kiwibank Limited.
Julie Patterson

Julie has extensive experience working in the NZ public health service in a wide range of clinical and leadership roles. She commenced her career as a register general and obstetric nurse (RGON), and her qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Business Administration. She has worked within hospital and health care settings in Wellington, Whanganui and for the Nelson Marlborough DHB. She has also worked in central government, including as an advisor for a Minister of Health.
For nine years she had the privilege of working as the Chief Executive of the Whanganui District Health Board and then a further year as the Interim CEO of Capital & Coast DHB in Wellington. During this time she had the opportunity to contribute to a number of cross government health and social service initiatives, locally, regionally and nationally.
Lilian Lawrence

Lilian has worked at Director and Senior Manager Level in both the public and private sectors in NZ and the UK.
In her career, she has successfully designed and implemented complex strategic planning processes, business models and governance frameworks. She has introduced complete portfolio management systems, enabling end to end management from the initial strategy to an individual project level. She has successfully managed complex transformation and change programmes.
She has an MBA in Change Management and is certified in the APMG-International Change Management ™. She is qualified in the full suite of project associated methodologies used in public and private sectors and is a Six Sigma Black Belt which is the leading process improvement methodology.

Lou McKenzie

Louise has had a career in the health environment, practicing in both nursing and law. In nursing, she held a range of positions as a registered nurse in Dunedin. On completion of her law degree 20 years or more ago, she has remained in the health sector working firstly in private, then for Capital coast DHB, ACC, Healthcare NZ. During those years she spent time in the middle east setting up the legal structure of health organisations in Dubai and Doha. While Health Law was the predominant focus, it also involved a range of commercial activities.
Recently retired to Blenheim, she is presently Vice Chairperson of the Marlborough Primary Health Organisation and volunteers at the Citizens Advice Bureau. In the past, she has held committee and Chair positions with Community Law Centre and Woman’s Law organisations.
Phil Vink

Born and raised in Christchurch and Mid Canterbury Phil has spent his working life in sales, marketing, operations and general management, business ownership and recently, commercial insurance and risk broking.
Phil worked for 10 years in the Fishing Industry during the 80’s and 90’s as Operations and Processing Manager for Nelson Fisheries and Regal Salmon. For most of the last 20 years he has owned and operated, in partnership, companies involved in the equipment hire and car rental sectors, in Blenheim and Christchurch.
Following the Canterbury Earthquakes and the closure of the companies Phil started working for Vero NZ Ltd as an Earthquake Claims Case Manager. This has led onto a successful career as a Commercial Broker for Aon NZ permanently based in Marlborough.
Phil has lived in and around Marlborough for 33 years. For eight years he was a Trustee of the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust and Ranui House in Christchurch. Currently he is a committee member of Renwick Smart & Connected and a Trustee of the Marlborough Festival and Events Trust. In 2020 he became a Trustee of The Marlborough Hospice Trust.
