Not at all, most of our patients receive care from us in their own home or in an residential care facility. We also visit our patients in hospital.
Whilst we have always provided our services to people with cancer, increasingly we are also providing specialist palliative care for anyone who is living with a chronic and life-limiting Illness.
Many of our patients spend a few days in the hospice in-patient unit for management of their symptoms, or for respite care to give caregivers a much needed break. They then return to their home or place of residence where their care is continued.
However, occasionally patients do choose to receive their end of life care in the Hospice inpatient unit.
Our services are partially funded by the government through the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board and through the generosity of our community, Hospice palliative care is free of charge to patients and their families.
